Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
Our goal as a team was to win our 22nd Mountain West Championship. Although we came up short, we were eligible to play in a bowl game. A goal of mine within the team was to lead by example and show up everyday ready to compete. An individual goal of mine was to play every game, all 13, and make the best of it. And that’s what I did.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would say that I’m a tough, hard working player that loves to compete and have fun. An awesome teammate and a leader by example.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
I focus on my pre-snap reads. I find tendencies and clues that my opponent may give to be able to predict the possible plays that can be ran. And depending on the play being ran, I try to see how and what I can do to make the play. Whether it be how I take on a certain blocking scheme, which gap I can shoot, the angle I should take, or simply just having good eyes. Our coaches do a great job preparing us every week, making sure we know who our opponent is. Preparation is a huge emphasis for the Aztec defense.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
My mindset, knowledge for the game, and playing with an edge. I am willing to do anything it takes to win and will give everything I got. Being a Polynesian from Hawai’i and knowing what it took my entire family to get me to where I am now, I not only represent myself, but my family bloodline as well.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
Continue to train and get better every single day. I have been training in San Diego at DC Athletics Performance Lab focusing on getting faster, more explosive, and flexible. I have also been training with my brothers and cousins back home in Hawaii, as they were once in my shoes and my role models. Watching film is another thing I have been doing to gain a step ahead of my opponent.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I will bring my knowledge, work ethic, and my willingness to learn. Knowing that theres more that I can learn, especially from those that are already in the next level is exciting.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
I’m hungry and ready to compete. An opportunity is all I need to show what I can do, whether it be on defense or special teams.
