What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
I had a lot of goals that I set and made sure I accomplished this last season, one of which that I took very personal was making 1st Team All-Conference and helping my guys get another conference championship. Another goal I prided myself on was to not give up a single touchdown this season.
Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?
I believe I took full advantage of the extra year of eligibility because being only my second year at SU, the defensive scheme especially as a safety takes some time getting used to. So having that extra year to not only get better knowledge of the scheme but also turn up my offseason training helped me a lot with showing what I could really do in between the white lines.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and players I whole heartedly believe would say I’m a team player and everything I did was for the team and that was my motive throughout the season. Also, that I’m one of the hardest if not hardest workers in any room I step into.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
When I study film of myself I focus heavily on post snap keys and my body position. Being taught by a great coach I had at SU, my eyes were everything and making sure the line key is what it is before then seeing what my receiver does was drilled into me heavy and I made sure I could see myself doing that on film. Also, as a DB you can’t play lazy and expect to react properly, I made sure to critique myself on any high pad level, flat feet, or bad angles I took when in pursuit.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
What separates me from other prospects at my position is that I can do it all and it sounds cliche but the film shows it. I can play in the box as a nickel and it pops up on film. I make stonewalling hits I don’t just go for the shoelace, I love the contact. I can play middle of the field and be sideline to sideline making plays. I can also line up in press man, off man, or catch and lock down whoever steps in front of me. I like doing what defensive backs are supposed to and that’s deny the pass game and headhunt once the ball is in opposing hands. I also pride myself on special teams.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
My offseason plan to prepare for professional opportunities is to continue on the path I took this past offseason and get better at it. The implementation of ankle stability, hip and knee strength, balance, as well as other exercises focused on basic bio mechanics really helped take my game to the next level with the way I was able to move around and exert more force with every action I did.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
The strengths I can bring to a team that will stand out on and off the field is my sense of selflessness. Anything the team needs I’m able to do it, I’m always thinking about team success because the fun is in the winning and you don’t win with selfish guys. I also have great leadership capabilities whether verbally to help guys when needed and I can also do exactly what I preach as well.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
My final pitch to the NFL and all other professional organizations is that I’m a player that’s willing to come in and hop on board from Day 1. Learning my playbook, getting with the vets, and building relationships with the coaches will only help me be a better player and in turn help the team which is the ultimate goal. I’m ready to make a legendary impact.
