What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
I wanted to do better than I did last year and help my team win and go to the playoffs. I made huge strides from where I started. I ended with being first team all conference which was my first time ever.
Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?
It’s about getting better and being better than the old you. I built my confidence up so I’d be ready for my final season. That extra year made me better and ready for the NFL. This last season helped my chances a lot, it shows the hard work I put in and the will to finish no matter what. I trained with some NFL guys and trainers that help built my confidence and help me become a more balanced player. I learn a lot taking a trip to California to go train.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I couldn’t answer that question, that would be a good question for my teammates and coaches. But I do know they will say I am there if they need me on and off the field.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
I focus on my movements and what I did right or wrong so I can do better next time. I look at my stance, my leverage, my back peddle, my breaks, my effort, and my technique. I also look at the person I will be up against to pick up some tendencies and also look for the QB steps, eyes and cadence.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
My presence sitting at 6’3″ is a QBs worst nightmare and I love to come down and make tackles. I can also play corner if needed. What I had to go through kind of separated me being how I went to four different schools, being homeless and getting through it all and finishing. But that’s only part of it. I worked hard everyday. I trained by myself. I stayed disciplined in the worst conditions. You have to really go through things to test you and I feel like I’ve been tested in every way possible. It started when I was young, I thank God everyday for making me different.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
Just keep getting better and building my confidence. I will be training everyday to be in the best shape possible so when my opportunity comes I am ready. I will train by myself and also with a trainer and also do therapy to make sure core, hips, legs, back, shoulders and my body are in great condition.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
On the field I can make plays for my team, I can tackles in the open field all day long. I can be a leader in the back end and a great teammate and make the fans excited to watch. Off the filed, I can be mentor to the younger generations, and find ways to motivated every fan and person I can. Being a great role model for the people and to give them hope. I can also set up position meetings so that me and my team be on the same page, even if it’s just a house gathering with my teammates to do some team bonding.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
My final pitch would be that I am somebody who doesn’t give up, I work hard, I fight everyday to become a better person for myself and family. I take pride in being accountable, putting my team first and doing whatever is asked of me for the team. I want to be the best I can be so I love being coachable and learning from others. I put God first and stay positive in any situation. Adversity made me who I am today and I am always grateful. You will not regret the opportunity you give me.
