Yansay Williams: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Yansay Williams
School: Monmouth College
Position: WR
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 180

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

I wasn’t able to accomplish a majority of my individual goals because of an ankle injury that kept me sidelined for a majority of the season. As a team, we wanted to go further in the playoffs than any team in program history, but we ended up not making the playoffs because we lost our conference championship game. As a leader though, I felt like I gave a good example of how to grow as a player and individual. For the guys that were under me, I wanted to be a good role model, the only place for them to go is up and they know that.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

Unique athlete and special talent, a guy that you can put anywhere on the field and I’ll find a way to win. Also, a guy that leads by example. I come in everyday ready to work.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

When I watch film, I look a lot at the things that I could’ve done better. One of my favorite quotes is “you’re your biggest obstacle” so I feel like if I’m able to perfect my craft, I’ll be successful regardless of what the other team is doing. Strengthening your weaknesses is major. When I watch my opponents, I like to see certain moves or cuts that they struggle with, especially in my routes that could help me beat them easier.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

What separates me from most players at my position is my willingness to block. A lot of wide receivers don’t block and don’t take pride in it. I’m willing to do whatever the team needs in order to win.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

Being a student of the game, I’m always watching technique videos of wide receivers and what I can take away from them. Right now, Keenan Allen is one of my favorites to watch. On top of that, I am going to train really hard. Majority of my athletic career I’ve been a smaller guy, it wasn’t until college that my numbers started to improve across the board, so improving those even more is a big goal of mine. I know I have what it takes to play at the next level, so getting myself into the best shape possible to prove it is at the top of my list.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

A winning mentality, I hate to lose, so I’m willing to do anything to win. I’m very determined, so my drive to win will rub off on others on and off the field. That type of mentality is contagious and it improves everyone around me

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

When given the opportunity, I’ll prove that the risk is worth the reward. Scouts and such are always scared to take a chance on small school guys. Don’t miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime.
