Tyron Roberts: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Tyron Roberts
School: Winston-Salem State
Position: DL
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 300

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

Some goals I ended up accomplishing going into my final season, I would have to say just being able to lead my team in tackles and sacks as a defensive lineman as I showed improvement in my ability starting with the smallest details. I also had a 40-yard forced fumble recovery touchdown in my career and contributed on two championship games we have won. I ended up making All-CIAA and getting defensive MVP in my Miami Bowl Game.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

The coaches would start off by saying that I am a quiet, humble, and very disciplined player that will do everything I am told, as I will do whatever it takes to help the team win any battle on the field. I am dedicated and self-driven as all my hard work show on the field while being a big impact on the defensive line with my teammates.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

When studying film, the first thing I study is my reaction time compared to my opponent’s reaction time because speed kills. To be able to be an excellent defensive lineman you must be able to react and attack fast coming off your first step. At the same time, I got to study myself on plays to make sure I can execute everything and be dominant while doing it.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I would have to say my ability with a lot of power/strength, quickness, vision, and acceleration as a 300-pound defensive lineman, especially me rerouting to our linebacker and safety level to make big tackles.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I am going to have a trainer and focus on being very flexible and having all around strength and having a burst of speed while continuing to stay healthy.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

With my strength, quickness, and acceleration at my size, the impact that you want is what I can bring to the team. I’m also a person that never been in any trouble or conflicts on or off the field. I am disciplined and loyal to the coaches and the game of football. I will always represent my team in a good way off the field.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

If I get the opportunity, I will be completely focused on doing what it takes to help the team be great, and I will always follow rules and regulations that are set. All I need is the opportunity to show what I can do.
