Sean Grayer: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Sean Grayer
School: South Alabama
Position: LB
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 235

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

We had goals of winning conference in the Sun Belt and being a dominant force on the defensive side of the ball. We were not able to obtain these goals. But having a rough season teaches you and the team life-long lessons. I felt I became a better leader for my team, I was more vocal in teaching the young guys of how to mentally and physically prepare for games.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

I believe they will say I’m one of the hardest working and consistent individuals on the team. I was always dependable and durable on the field. They could put me anywhere and I was going to make plays and not be out of gap. Also, no matter how banged up I was, I was going to start and make plays to help my team win.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

I look at everything. I look at how teams line up in their sets in hoping to get a lead on what plays they run in certain formations or situations. Then I look at the O-Line because their stance and hand placement will tell you a lot on whether it’s a pass or run and if it’s an outside or inside run. Then I’ll look at the individuals who I’ll go against 1on1 to see what’s their weaknesses and their strengths. Then I focus on myself to see what can I do better to put myself in a position to make plays or do my job.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I have the ability where I can line up anywhere on the field and produce at a high level. My IQ and the ability to recognize a play before the ball is snapped so I won’t be out of my gap is one of my greatest strengths. My consistency on the field is the reason why I been able to start at multiple positions since I was a freshman here at South Alabama.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

Amp Performance has been the training facility I been working out at the whole offseason. My trainer Jake Johnson was a former highly regarded NFL draft prospect so he knows what I need to train and work on for my Pro Day and when I get my shot in the NFL. Every day we’re lifting weights, doing field work, or fixing our running form/technique so I can be faster. Also, I been watching and dissecting film at my position so I can be a student of the game.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I can play different positions on the field because I am a versatile player. I can play all the special teams. A coach can be confident that no matter what position I play, I will make plays at a high-level. I’m also durable and never missed a game at South Alabama. Also, off the field they shouldn’t worry that I’ll bring distractions or be in the news for doing something negative or getting arrested.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

When you draft me or pick me up. You’re getting a guy who’s going to go 110% every day and do all the little things right to compete for a spot. Wherever the coach needs me to play, I’m giving it my all. I’m there to take someone’s job and play in the big stage. Playing professional football has been something I always dreamed about and getting this opportunity is a blessing. When I get my shot, I guarantee I won’t disappoint.
