Richard McCollum: 2024 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Richard McCollum
School: Western Carolina University
Position: K
Height: 5-8
Weight: 175

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

Goals that I set this year were to be reliable for my team, to hit big time kicks when my team needed me to, and to remain consistent all year. Goals that I set to accomplish this year were to finish as one of the top FCS Kickers in the Nation, Lead the nation in field goal percentage, finish First-Team All-Conference & to have at least a 90% field goal percentage.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My coaches and teammates would say that I am a consistent, efficient, and reliable player that knows his job and role on the team. They would say that I am always ready to perform/capitalize on every opportunity, whether it’s to tie or win the game.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When I study film I like to focus on any inconsistencies in my kicking form that can effect the kick. I like to focus on things such as ball contact, plant foot placement, body position on ball impact, etc. There is always something I can work on to improve my game.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me from the other pro prospects is the approach I take towards the kicking game. I try to be a technician on form training as I believe the little things will make the biggest impact in your game in the long run. I firmly believe that consistency will keep you on the field at any level.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I plan to train with some of the best kicking coaches around the country as I look to fine tune my game before pro day occurs.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

The strengths I can bring to a team are being reliable, having a consistent work ethic, and being a team player. I understand that every team and coach wants 6 points on every drive, but if we have to settle for 3 it’s my role to be ready and make it happen.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

My final pitch to any pro league is the great thing about kicking is the level, division, conference, etc. does not matter. The field is the same, uprights are the same, hashes are the same for every college guy…if you’re good, you’re good. If you need an accurate & reliable guy to give you 3 when you need it, I’m your guy.
