Maurice Thomas Jr: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Maurice Thomas Jr
School: Alderson Broaddus
Position: WR/PR/KR
Height: 5’8″
Weight: 180

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

I became a better leader that was my number one. I asked my team and coaches, their answer was simple but yet profound. “I played my role perfectly”. Second I had over 50 catches (66).

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

Definitely tough, versatile, and reliable for sure. I take a lot of tough hits in the slot position but always shake it off, they’ve seen me come back from injuries & still make plays. They could also put me anywhere on the field and have complete confidence that I’d get the job done.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

First is effort I hang my head on not giving effort on some plays. Second, alignment and assignment. Did I line up right, did I run the right route/ block the right person. Third is execution. Okay now did I do my job, did I finish the run, the catch, or the block.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

Quickness everywhere I go. I’m complimented by other receivers on my ability to make those fast twitch motions, I pride myself on creating separation in tight spaces.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

Working hard at The Athletic Factory has been preparing me, getting stronger and faster. I hope to get into mini camp at least before the start of the season to show off my abilities.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Off the field there will be no problems! Never have been and never will be. I plan on creating a bond with the community especially with kids who grow up less fortunate than others. On the field bring a competitive demeanor to practice, film, and into games therefore making everyone around me better. That’s all I ever want to do is compete so hopefully someone gives me the opportunity I’m looking for to do so.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

If you’re looking for a 4.3 guy, jumps a 38’ Vert, 4.1 shuttle, phenomenal run after catch and be a dynamic boost on special teams. No off the field troubles and hardworking and coachable. I’m your guy look no further, don’t let the size fool you.
