Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?
The goals that I accomplished this year was to successfully make the transition from safety to corner and I also wanted to go out on a good note. I had 2 interceptions, a pick-six, 5 pass break-ups, and 27 Tkls.
Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?
My coaches would say that I am a hard-worker, leader, and a play-maker. I was a leader in the weight room and on the field. That I demonstrated great character on and off the field. That I put the team before myself and that they can trust me to get the job done.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
When Im studying film, I focus on every aspect of the game to increase my knowledge against my opponents and also to correct my mistakes. When watching film you want to break down every play from offense to special teams. You want to look for down & distance, formations, tendencies, and personnel. These four things help me improve my game to a new level. It’s one thing to be athletic and stay in front of someone. But it’s another thing when you know what’s coming and what to expect. It’s the biggest advantage.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
What separates me from other players at my position is that I am versatile, a juco product, and a competitor. I played Safety, nickel, and cornerback at Ventura College (JUCO) but majority of my reps were at safety. Then I went to Wayne State University and played safety and cornerback with my main position being cornerback. I also come from Juco, which means I have something to prove like a chip on my shoulder. I wasn’t highly recruited coming out of high school. I had to earn everything that I got. No handouts. People who make it out of Junior college, are a different breed.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
I will prepare myself like never before. I will dedicate myself to the weight room for strength, explosion and my size to compete with professional athletes. I also will further dedicate myself to the field work because honestly that’s were the money is at. You have to be able to move with these explosive, fast, and big receivers. Even in the slot you have to move even better to check those quick speedsters. You learn your technique on the field and with drills. So I want to really focus on my technique because that’s going to maximize my career instead of just focusing on my athleticism. I also watch a lot of film on the NFL on Youtube.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
My main strengths are that I am a natural born leader, any program that I had a chance to be apart of, my teammates had followed me and believed in me. I bring that type of intensity that rubs off of my team, that intensity that makes everybody around me better. I had never back down from anyone no matter the rank of the team or the top ranked individuals players on the team. I love challenges and I love competing with the best. In order to be the best you have to beat the best. And that’s been my mentality my whole life. I am extremely confident in my ability and worth ethic. I’m always the hardest worker on the team. I’m always pushing my teammates to reach their full potential on and off the field. I bring the JUICE!!!
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
I was a 0 star recruit coming out of high school, but not because of my talent. I wasn’t highly ranked coming out of Junior College. I’m not even on the radar at all for the NFL. However, I am one of the best unknown and underrated players in the country. I want to succeed as much as I want to breathe. With an NFL Contract, I have the chance to take care of my family and change the generation curve in my family. But I do not want to be in the NFL for the money, that’s just a bonus. Ever since I played the game as a kid, it was love at first sight. I love this game more than anything. I want to showcase my talents to the world that GOD blessed me with. I want to take care of my family and get them out of Detroit. This is bigger than me. It has always been bigger than me, that’s why I keeping striving to pursue the NFL. It has always been a dream of mine, it’s my dream job. I want to show my city that you can chase your dreams and get what you deserve in life. Despite all the challenges and adversities you have to face in life, you can overcome them and flourish. I am like a Swiss army knife when its comes to versatility. I can and will do it all plus I am an excellent tackler.
