Jewison Dawkins: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Jewison Juice Dawkins
School: Virginia Union
Position: WR
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 190

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

I never had personal goals as far as stats or awards . My goals were to become a better player, a better teammate, a better leader. I wanted to be accountable for my teammates. The only goal I wanted to accomplish was to win a championship but unfortunately we came up short.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

My coaches will say that I’m a great student athlete. Making the deans list every year and being a starter that doesn’t miss meetings, practice, or a game makes me the ideal student athlete they look for to recruit. My coaches will also say I’m a great leader, accountable, hard worker, passionate, high football IQ and very coachable.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

I focus on the little things such as foot placement, start off, and hand placement. I focus on all my mistakes from the beginning of practice to end of practice. I pay attention to every detail to make myself a better player. I try to be the best technician I can be. I watch how everyone runs routes and put a piece of it into my game.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

The little things. I take everything serious from my start and stance, release, how many steps I have to take, coming out my break fast, and knowing how to set a DB to where I want them. Also my IQ, I have a lot of experience, watch a lot of film. I been taught by some of the best trainers in south Florida. Also been blessed to gain knowledge from current and past NFL players.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I will train day in day out. Focus mainly on my weaknesses. I will train with my strength and conditioning coach at Virginia Union University, WR specialist Tevin Allen (gold feet global) and strength conditioning/ speed Nick Hicks (Perform). I will continue to work hard, get better everyday, and never take a day off.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

A type of player that will do anything for the team to win. For example if a coach asks for an arm, I’ll give him my arm, if he asks to give a leg, I’ll give a leg. A hard worker, smart player, a great special teams player and a talented WR that can make plays. Off the field I will stay focused, I will not bring any distractions to my team or myself. I will represent my organization very well every time I’m in public.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

This is my dream, I made up my mind to play professional football when I was in the 6th grade knowing that if I will have an opportunity it will be a blessing and I will make the best out of it. I will never stop working hard, I want to make an impact on and off the field. I’ll give my all and be a professional on and off the field.
