Jett Stanley: 2024 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Jett Stanley
School: Sacramento State
Position: DL
Height: 6-5
Weight: 285

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

I told myself that I would improve upon my previous seasons of playing collegiate ball and that I would give everything I had before leaving the field each game. I accomplished my goal of obtaining All-Big Sky again for the third consecutive year and won FCS Player of the Week after my game against Stanford.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

They would say that I am very consistent with how I play. I focus on doing my job every play and coordinating with the team around me to finish it. I am a lead by example kind of player, and will always give it my best on the field. Those that know me well understand how hard I can be on myself, and how much I strive for excellence when I play this game.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

During my collegiate career at Sac State I have learned many things from my coaches, including how to watch film. My Defensive Line coach, Coach Paulson, taught me a lot about honest evaluation when watching film. Things I tend to look for are the direction and size of my first step off of the ball when in “first step contact,” and the ability to connect with my hands depending on how I am being blocked. I also watch how my actions intertwine with those around me on certain schemes. I always want to hold my ground on doubles and work to split them, as well as keep good spacing with my other teammates.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

One thing that separates me from other athletes is my ability to gain leverage on opposing players. I have been tall compared to most athletes I have faced growing up and through this experience I have learned how to gain leverage on players even when they are naturally lower than me. This allows me to gain control of an offensive lineman no matter the size. Another part of my game that separates me from others is the mental aspect of how I can play. I have played football since I was 7 years of age and I have seen just about everything. I have developed a sense when something does not feel right such as a screen or trick play. I can notice an offensive lineman blocking differently even after just a couple steps. I have great awareness when on the field, and I use these skills frequently while playing.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

Seeing as my season just ended last week, I am still finalizing the details of my training cycle and waiting to hear the date of Sac State’s Pro Day. The plan is to train and prepare at home first during the holidays, and then I will come back to school in order to train for the final few months before my Pro Day.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I will bring a consistent player that can always be counted on both on and off of the field. I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering while participating in D1 college football. I know how to keep my priorities straight, and how to follow a schedule. I will play through many pains that others may not because of how much I expect from myself and my commitment to what I set my mind to.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

I will provide more to the team than just being a good football player. I am truly a no nonsense guy and I will be a consistent teammate that will show up for the team. I feel that my film can speak for itself, and I will always work to improve my game. I have enjoyed playing football for most of my life and I would appreciate an opportunity to continue to play. I will never take it for granted and I will put in the work every day.
