Jaylen Watson: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Jaylen Watson
School: Northwestern State
Position: WR
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 190

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

I’m not the type to set goals, but I aimed to double all of my stats from the previous season. I accomplished that, which led me to being an All-Conference receiver.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

The coaches would say that I’m a player who is very disciplined and level headed. They will say I am a very smooth route runner, capable of making any type of play, and a tremendous blocker. Always doing the right things off the field and has a great demeanor. A player you don’t have to worry about getting in trouble away from football.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

I mainly focus on practice film because I believe you practice how you play. I critique my releases and getting in and out of my breaks to better myself as a receiver. I also watch fellow receivers on my team, when I lack in certain things to learn from them.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I think what separates me from other players is that I am always cool, calm, and collective. I never let bad plays define me, as well as the good plays. I have a “Next play” mentality and I feel that separates me. It is a very underrated trait to have as football player.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I will be mainly work on getting in and out of breaks (route running), strength, and conditioning. Also, work on all the athletic testing that will be done on pro day.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

On the field, I know I can bring versatility at the receiver position. I believe I can play outside or inside receiver and run every single route in the tree at a high level. I believe there is nothing I can’t do as far as being a receiver. Off the field, I carry myself well and represent my family and any program I am apart of well. I’m very respectful and humble.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

I am very dependable and have a work mentality. I am a man of action and don’t say much, but I will show what I am about.
