Jalen Lawrence: 2024 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Jalen Lawrence
School: Quincy University
Position: WR
Height: 5-11
Weight: 171

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

The goals I had set for myself weren’t able to achieve them due to injuries being able to put my own ego to the side. I went out and performed to the best I can with a broken finger being able to block and catch the ball with practically a cast on my finger at a high level. Just becoming a team player, being able to see other guys make plays and step up when I wasn’t able too.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

Words from my teammate Joseph Webb, “You’re a big play waiting to happen, an emotional player that wears their heart on their sleeve”. Words from my teammate Trajen Thornton, “A winner, who wants the best for the team, passionate, and always going to make a big play at least twice a game and lighting in a bottle”. JUCO Receiver Coach Joseph Lake, “Explosive, smart, breakaway speed, deep threat. Can play the 1 or 2, can be put in motion for a jet sweep or orbit, and score from anywhere on the field”.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

Always looking at the little detail’s depth of my routes, blocking assignments and watching teammates because they might have something I like and would possibly input that into my game. Watching the little details DB show for example them being flat on their feet , are they heavy inside or outside shade, is he physical or patient. Also with having a new receiver coach this season just ended and he basically gave each Wr in our room things we should work on and week by week I took those things into consideration and worked on it to be a better player.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My offseason training will be with my former JUCO WR coach Joseph Lake, where we work on footwork, change of direction, my routes, ball skills, and speed training. I will take the time to lift with having free access to a nearby gym.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

Getting back with my trainers in California working on speed and change of direction and bulking up.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Any team who takes the chance on me will get a fun, energetic player that has a passion for the game. Will be on time to meetings, practice, and always willing to put in extra work to not only better myself, but for the team to make us better.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

Not asking for any handouts, I’m willing to come in and work, just looking for an opportunity . May be a smaller guy compared to others but that’s what make me go harder, willing to compete and go against anybody.
