DeVonte Dedmon: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: DeVonte Dedmon
School: William & Mary
Position: WR/KR/PR
Height: 5’9″
Weight: 195

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

My main goal was to be the best teammate I could be. I felt if I did that then everything else would fall into place for our team.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

My coaches would say I’m a hard worker that is never satisfied. Playmaker that can make something out of nothing.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

I learned a lot from my teammate Jack Armstrong over my time at William and Mary. I watched how he was as a player. He is one of the best blocking wide receivers I’ve ever seen and I hope to one day be the blocker he is. I try and be the best at coming out of my breaks smooth as I can. Anyone can run fast straight but if you are able to transition in and out of breaks you become a different monster. I look at the defensive backs and what their tendencies are.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I’m a student of the game. I watch so many videos of the best WR to ever play. Whether that’s footwork, route running or simply attacking the football in the air. My coach has always said “iron sharpens iron” I always push the guy next to me to be the best player he can and doing that will make the team better.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I’m currently training at Shockwave Strength and Performance in Newport News, Virginia. Here we focus on every little detail of training. The trainers have drills down to a science and I’m very excited to show the work I’ve put in.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Off the field I’m a very nice person that is willing to help anyone in need. On the field I will show up each day ready to get better. Leaving my ego at the door and trying to push my teammates in practice to make our team better.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

If you have me as a player you are getting someone that isn’t afraid of adversity and has great character. I’ve been through a lot over my college career that has made me into a better man today. I care about my teammates and the people around me. You will be getting someone that will do whatever it takes to help the team win. I play wide receiver but I also did punt and kick return in college and can honestly say it is one of my favorite things to do. I’m all about giving back and helping in the community. Williamsburg, Virginia is my hometown and while it is small it raised me to appreciate what I have and not to take anything for granted. If I was granted the opportunity to be apart of any organization I will give them my all everyday of the week. I will not be just representing myself. I will be representing my family, my city and most importantly your organization.
