Deshawnte Lloyd: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Deshawnte Lloyd
School: New Mexico State
Position: DT
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 317

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

One of my goals I had going into the season was to start and I accomplished that. Another goal I had was to show that it takes two people to block me and I was able to accomplish that as well.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

My coaches would say I’m a very lovable person with a big personality. They would also tell you how disruptive I am. The offense always had trouble getting plays off in practice.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

I focus on a few things when watching film, one of them being my footsteps. I focused on that because most of our play calls had us slanting. Another area I focus on in film is the offensive line giveaways. I look at them to see if they give away where they are going, are they heavy in stance, are they light in their stance. This helps me figure out if the team is running or passing.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

One of the biggest factors I see is my penetration. Even though sometimes I may not make the play, I make it easier for the linebackers to fill and make the play. Another factor that separates me is that I require two people to block me, so someone will be free.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I will be working on a few things for the draft. One of them being reducing my body fat and working on my footwork. I will be working with one of the best trainers in Atlanta, Micheal Daies.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

One of the strengths I will bring to the team is toughness. In order to play this game at the highest level, I think you have to have that edge to you, or as my coach used to say “ a chip on your shoulder”. Another strength I can bring to a team is my work ethic. I’ve always been a hard worker and coaches would always point out to other players if he can do it at 300 pounds, you can. That in turn would increase the level of play in my teammates.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

My final pitch for any teams who are interested is, you are getting a hard working, humble player who will stop at nothing to achieve greatness in the NFL and in the community.
