Derek Dorr: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Derek Dorr
School: Edinboro
Position: DT-3 Technique
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 300

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

My 2 most important personal goals was to become an All-American and lead the PSAC in either sacks or TFLs. I accomplished both. I lead the PSAC with 21 TFLs and became an All-American.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

I am a selfless leader who cares about the team and will do anything to win. I show more by example that verbal and I will do anything a coach asks.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

First, I’m watching film all the time, whether I’m in or out of season. I’ll watch an NFL game and watch the best DL on the field. I focus on many things watching film, the most important thing is what can I do better to minimize my mistakes. Secondly, I look at the guy across from me and try to maximize his mistakes by finding his weaknesses and then using moves to exploit those weaknesses.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

Usually you look at an interior DL and you see a big man who can lock up the A or B gap and stop the run up the middle. On top of that I can also run to the football and make plays down field as well as make plays in the backfield.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I am currently training with Lewis Fitness and Performance in Erie. They train James Connor of the Pittsburgh Steelers and many other pro athletes. They ensure that I am in the best shape possible by helping me with my explosion, strength, and speed. So my combine numbers are top notch so that when a scout looks at my film and my combine numbers it’s going to be difficult for them to pass me up.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I’d say my attitude is one of my strengths because no matter the outcome I try to stay positive and get the job done. Also, I’d say my flexibility. Not physical flexibility. I’m talking about being able to adapt to different circumstances and thriving through those circumstances. Lastly, my play making ability. Like I recently stated, I will make plays in the backfield on the goal line or 30 yards down field.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

I give my heart to this game. I work everyday to get better and will do anything to succeed on and off the field. Whenever I make a mistake I own up to it and I study the mistake and make sure that I never have that happen again. I’m a quick learner that wants to continue the dream of playing football at the next level. Finally, I will do anything to win.
