DeMarcus Owens: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: DeMarcus Owens
School: New Mexico State
Position: DB
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 189

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

A big one for me was taking on a leadership role, not only with my actions, but vocally as well.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

I’m not someone you need to worry about when I’m on the field. You don’t have to worry if I’ll get the job done or not. That also goes for off the field too, coaches don’t have to worry if I’m taking care of business in the class room or even out in public. I know the actions that I take don’t only represent me, but they represent the team as well.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

When I watch practice film, I look at the way I get out of my breaks, or if I should have stayed in my back pedal or if my eyes are in the right place etc. When I watch game film on the opponent, I try to pick up on their alignment, certain formations, and their tendencies.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

What separates me is that I’m a student of the game. Watching tape is big for me. I want to be able to know or at least have an idea of what my opponent is trying to do based off of what I studied while watching film.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I’ll train as hard as I can of course, but a specific area that I’ll focus on is the 40 because that is huge for defensive backs. Also, continue working on DB drills so that I move fluidly when scouts come.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Work ethic for sure. I feel like on & off the field my work ethic is something you never have to question.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

My skill set, work ethic, football IQ, and athleticism are all there. All I need is an opportunity.
