Dalton Banks: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Dalton Banks
School: Cornell
Position: QB
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 242

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

The goals I accomplished heading into my final season at Cornell included throwing the ball away if receivers were not open, using my legs to get a first down if the opportunity presented itself, and I also made it a priority to go through my progressions to make the best possible throw.

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

My coaches would describe me as a dedicated teammate and a hard worker, as well as a smart quarterback who could stand in the pocket and deliver the ball under pressure. They know I could put the ball where it needed to be.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

When studying film I focus on ways to improve my game. I re-watch every play to see what I could have done better in that situation and take notes on things I will focus on the next week in practice. However, I know I can’t spend too much time dwelling on the previous game because the next one is all that matters, so I bury it and begin studying the tendencies of the next team we plan to face.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

My arm combined with my intelligence make me a better quarterback than others that play the same position. I have accuracy and arm strength as well as a will to win. I am not afraid to stand in the pocket to deliver the ball. I am also strong and resilient. I am not easily injured. I started 30 straight games in college. I’m a good teammate as well. I encourage and support others as we are all wanting to reach the same goal: to win.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

To prepare myself for pro days, and the draft this off-season I will be working out 4-5 days a week with my trainer, BayBay McClinton, at All Sports in San Antonio, TX. Check out his Instagram and you’ll see me and some other position players training. We work on strength, agility, footwork, and speed in addition to throwing balls to receivers running routes on the field. I also work with quarterback coach Daniel Aguilar weekly to hone my accuracy and quick release skills throwing the ball. We also work on improving footwork and many other aspects of my game.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

My strengths and abilities that I will bring to a team include professionalism, competence, reliability and dedication. I study hard and use time wisely and plan to conduct myself in a way that is respectful of all people I will come into contact with on and off the field. I will do whatever it takes to get the job done and work countless extra hours to become the best player and teammate I can be.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

In all, I am a complete package and will work hard for the team I am a part of. I will be the last one to leave the film room and night and the first one you will see in the morning at team facilities. My leadership, physical and cognitive abilities will be an asset to the team and to my teammates. Learning and ultimately mastering the offensive system and plays will take priority and I will support those around me in order that we can be the best we can be as a unit.
