Cason Whitt: 2019 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Cason Whitt
School: Bluefield
Position: QB
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 205

Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?

As far as my personal accolades, I was blessed enough to earn a spot on the Pre-Season All-American watch list posted by FAF. I was also voted to be the speaking captain for my team, but I’ve always been the type of guy who’s more concerned about our success as a team, rather than my own personal accolades. So when we received votes for the Top 25 this preseason for the 1st time in school history, that was major!

Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?

I feel my coaches would describe me as an accountable leader who is very coachable. I’m the first person on the field and the last person off every practice, the same goes for the meeting/film room. I’m always looking for ways to improve my game, therefore, I appreciate and listen to feedback from all my coaches.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

I start my diagnosis of my opponent by watching multiple games of them playing against offenses similar to mine, such as teams who mimic the same formations and route combos. While watching film, I always have my opponents 2-deep roster on hand to reference. This way I can expose personal weaknesses, such as shorter DBs or undisciplined LBs that give away their blitzes.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

My toughness and my ability to make a play when there’s nothing there. I’m a dual threat Quarterback that has ran many different variations of the option, including the traditional Navy triple option in high school. I also value my uncanny ability to scramble behind the line of scrimmage while keeping my eyes down field.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I have continued my lifting and speed training regiment designed by my former strength coach, Dino Kaklis. I link up with some of my high school teammates a couple times a week to throw routes and maintain my mechanics. Lastly, nutrition is a major focus of mine, I’ve noticed a significant increase in muscle mass since I’ve upped my diet to 5 or 6 meals a day.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

My biggest strength I bring to a team is my high football IQ and my ability to be a coach on the field and in the film room. I am always challenging and encouraging my teammates, I believe I have the ability to get the best out of every player. As far as off the field leadership, I’ve always been involved with my community at home in Fredericksburg and while I was at Bluefield College. I understand that with the Quarterback position comes a lot of attention. My intentions are to use my platform to make a positive impact in my community.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

Although I played in the NAIA, I was invited to Myrtle Beach and had the privilege to play in the “Free Agent Football D1-FCS Senior Scout Bowl”. I led the South team to victory with a 4th quarter clutch drive and definitely proved I have what it takes to play at that level. I have experience coming into a rebuild situation and have successfully turned a program around. My school was at the bottom of the totem pole when I arrived, but through resilient commitment, my team and I were able to make a conference championship and shatter school records. I believe I have a lot of untapped potential, I continue to get stronger, faster, and gain good weight. I’m never satisfied and I continue to strive to become the best Quarterback I can be. When you get Cason Whitt, you get a determined, selfless leader with a high IQ who’s in it for the love of the game.
